p = 2l + 2w = 12
A = lw = 8
l = 8/w
Substitute:
2(8/w) + 2w = 12
16/w + 2w = 12
16 + 2w^2 = 12w
2w^2 - 12w + 16 = 0
(2w - 4)(w - 4) = 0
w = 4
w = 2
If w = 4, then l = 2 ( this makes no sense because l exceeds w by definition.)
If w = 2, then l = 4
So, technically there are two solutions, but, length should exceed width...
