Delete an element from a dictionary?

Is there a way to delete an item from a dictionary in Python?Additionally, how can I delete an item from a dictionary to return a copy (i.e., not modifying the original)?

# d is a dictionary, key is your key, this command delete such key

del d[key]

# if you don't want to modify the original, just create a copy first

d1 = d

del d1[key]
