3 - c/12 = 5c^2/2

multiplies both sides by 12

36 - c = 30c^2

0 = 30c^2 + c - 36

c = [ -1 +or- sqrt( 1 + 4(30)(36)]/60

= [ -1 +or- sqrt( 4321)]/60

IN either case, there are no extraneous solutions.
