Question

The length of a rectangular block is 3 times the length of a side of a cube. It’s width is x cm shorter than the length of a side of the cube. Show that x-6y=0 is the base areas of the cube and the rectangular block are equal.

block length B = 3 times cube side, y, or B=3y The block width is y-x

area of a side of the cube is y² Area of the block side is 3y(y-x)

set them equal and divide by y to get

y=3(y-x) = 3y-3x

3x-2y=0

Doesn't look like x-6y=0 though. close though.
