Can you graph the original function? It should be a parabola with a vertex at (0,5). What happens when you shift the entire graph up 9 units, where is the vertex now? Maybe that helps you see what happens with the equation.

In f(x) = (x - h)2 + k, (h , k) is the vertex. To move the graph vertically (up or down) add to "k."
f(x) = x2 + 5 + 9
f(x) = x2 + 14
