 Hana is putting fruit into bowls. She has 8 melons, 12 pears and 24 apples.She puts the same number of pieces of fruit in each bowl and only one type of fruit in each bowl. How many pieces can Hana put in each bowl?

The number she can put in each bowl is the greatest common factor or 8, 12, and 24

 

8 = 2 ·2 · 2

12 = 3 · 2 · 2

24 = 3 · 2 · 2 · 2

 

The factors common to all three are 2 · 2, or 4.

 

She can put 4 pieces in each bowl.
