Hi,
Since business schools have begun accepting the GRE, your dilemma has become increasingly common amongst business school applicants. In fact, the reduction in the length of the GMAT last year may very well be part of GMAC's (makers of the GMAT) strategy to compete with ETS (makers of the GRE)!
For most admissions officers at programs that accept both the GMAT and the GRE, choice of test scores shouldn't be a factor. They have a scale to convert scores from one test to the other. However, these two tests have a number of similarities as well as differences and one must take the test where he/she is more likely to perform better. For example, if vocabulary isn't your strength you should probably choose the GMAT over the GRE. If your Writing skills are your strong suit, you should probably go for the GRE. If you're a voracious reader, you are at an advantage in the GMAT because it has much longer Reading Comprehension passages than the GRE and those who lack the habit of reading a lot tend to struggle to stay focused.
I would be happy to schedule a lesson with you to further discuss the differences and help you identify the one that suits you better. Please click on my Wyzant profile to contact me!
