Tutor with 760, helping test takers ace GMAT for over 10 years!
In order to ace the GMAT, you need a customized strategy for all four sections of the test. I think the best way to develop that is to work one-to-one with an experienced tutor/coach who can tailor his/her advice according to your strengths/weaknesses.
There are two useful things you can do by yourself as soon as possible:
- Review the Quant concepts provided in the Official Guide
- Work on improving your vocabulary, specifically targeting high frequency GMAT words. Magoosh VocabularyBuilder is an excellent free app that can help you do this.
My approach varies a great deal depending on the stage of preparation of each student and his/her strengths and weaknesses. For someone who's just beginning, I generally start with advice and strategies for all of the different types of questions in the GMAT. I use several example questions/problems to demonstrate the techniques and explain the strategies. Simultaneously, I expect the students to do 1 and 2 mentioned above and bring to my notice any challenges they face. Once we've covered the basics, I use a number of difficult questions/problems to explain strategies to tackle the higher difficulty level questions. The next round of prep would be to assign practice problems and practice tests to identify weak spots and improve. The last stage would be to do many timed full-length tests to further identify areas for improvement and maximise one's score.
