A useful conditional formatting trick is to do this with a function. Follow these steps:
1) Select the array your want the condition to apply to
2) Conditional Formatting > New Rule
3) Use a formula to determine which cells to format
4) End this formula: =MOD(ROW(),2)=0
5) Choose your formatting
