AFQT scores are a combined, weighted score from the following ASVAB subtests: word knowledge, paragraph comprehension, arithmetic reasoning, and mathematics knowledge. Scores range from 1-99, and determines your "category", I-V. This will ultimately determine if you can apply to a branch, and what job you may qualify for within that branch. Obviously you want to score as high as you can to open more opportunity to you.
Look online to see the scores required for particular jobs within the branch of service you are interested in. Here are minimums required for each branch:
Minimum AFQT score
- Air Force - 36.
- Army - 31.
- Coast Guard - 40.
- Marine Corps - 32.
- Navy - 35.
