German is definitely more difficult to learn for English speakers than other languages. This is not my opinion – a quick internet search will demonstrate this immediately. Try googling "difficulty of languages for English speakers" and see what you get. While English is considered a Germanic language and has a certain amount of shared vocabulary, the case system (all those words for "the" and "a" and adjective endings!) and the large amount of vocabulary that is completely unrelated to English make German hard to learn for English speakers, even if not as hard as languages like Mandarin Chinese and Arabic.
