No, Nexium is a proton pump inhibitor. It works by decreasing acid secretion in your stomach. A commonly prescribed nitrate is nitroglycerin (typically sublingual) used for chest pain. Patients that have had a heart attack are prescribed a nitrate to take if they feel chest pain. If your throat felt like it was closing up, please make sure you are not allergic to any of the ingredients. In case of allergic reaction seek medical attention immediately.
