Dawn,
Microsoft WORD is a very flexible writing program that runs on a PC or iMAC computer. Just like this one I'm writing with now, it will let you state your math problem and all the steps you take to solve it. For the teacher, the result is a lot easier to read than handwriting. But WORD is a lot more flexible than this WyzAnt writing program. You can change the appearance of your writing in many ways: size of the characters, the font style, bolded or italic, place things in shaded boxes, add colors to text or background, bring in photos or illustrations, print or send the result, etc, etc. Plus it has all kinds of symbols, languages, etc.
In WORD, you basically start with a blank page that you give a filename, Math#1.doc for example, and save it to The PC desktop so you can find it easily. By doing this you won't lose most of what you write should the power go off. Now just type in your problem statement and its step-by-step solution which you can work out on paper first. You can use some completed problems here as a pattern to follow. Use spacing to keep things clear and readable.
BTW, a program such as WORD is called a word processing application. It separates content from layout and appearance. Once you get your words and symbols typed, you can alter their appearance in terms of size, color, emphasis, where they appear on the page, etc, without having to retype them in each time you make a change. It can also check spelling for you. All these capabilities save you time once you learn how to use WORD. So experiment and practice.
Apple's computers offer PAGES which is comparable to WORD for us non-professional authors. Google also offers their own free version of such a program. So I don't know if your teacher really cares which one of these programs you use, except that filenames of the documents you create will have a different 3-character extension after the period in the filename.
Good luck.
