How do you find the area of a square? Length times width. What is special about a square? All of it's sides are equal length. So let the side length of the smaller square be "x" and then the side length of the bigger square is "x+3". You also know that the sum of the areas of the squares is equal to 549, so write an equation based on that and then solve for x.
