What is x^1 multiplied by x^1/2?

Trying to integrate and am having trouble with the indices. Was originally x ¹x.

Indices or exponents?  As written, they're exponents. Here's the rule: When you multiply two terms with the same base, the exponents add. So:

 

x*x^1/2 = x^1+1/2 = x^3/2
