I have a lot of trouble simplifying negative square roots because I don’t understand how to do it.

6 − √(-8/2) goes to 6 − √(-4) or 6 ± 2i, where i is defined as the square root of -1.
6 − {√(-8) ÷ 2} goes to 6 − 0.5[±2(√2)i] or 6 ± i√2 where i is defined as the square root of -1.
[6 − √(-8)] ÷ 2 goes to [6 − ±2(√2)i] ÷ 2 or 3 ± i√2 where i is defined as the square root of -1.
