Hi Kayla,
If my question (assumption) (prediction) is correct, it is because 1000 is not perfect square.
I tried many numbers with decimals and this is what I got:
(31.6227753)2 = 999.99991767429009
(31.6227763)2 = 999.99998091984169
(31.6227766)2 = 999.99999989350756
(31.62277663)2 = 1000.0000017908741569
As you can see, it is getting close to 1000 but never equals to 1000. If it goes little bit more, it passes 1000 mark.
If you try this as integer or whole number, there are no square roots of 1000 or one number (integer or whole number) that can be squared to make 1000. If you try this through calculator by taking square root of 1000, you will not get perfect number (integer or whole number). You will get decimal that never ends. I promise.

Hi Kayla,
Square feet (ft.2) is a unit of area.
(1000 ft.)2 is 1000000 ft.2 , so it is possible!
1000 ft.2 is already an area, so it is also possible.
Exactly what quantity is to be squared in your question?
I hope this helps.
