Stan and Harry leave the same place at the same time and trabel in opposite directions. After 2 hours they are 236 miles apart. Stan's speed is 8 mph faster than Harry's. Find their speeds?

Let v = Harry's speed.

 

Stan's speed = v + 8

 

Since they travel in opposite directions, Harry will see Steve move at a relative speed of v + v + 8 = 2v +8.

 

 

After 2 hours, Steve will be 236 miles from Harry.

 

236 = 2(2v + 8)

 

118 = 2v + 8

 

v = 55 mph.

 

 

Stan's speed will be 63 mph.
