Sarah Meeham blends coffee for Tasti-Delight. She needs to prepare 160 pounds of blended coffee beans selling for $5.13 per pound. She plans to do this by blending together a high-quality bean costing $6.25 per pound and a cheaper bean at $3.25 per pound. To the nearest pound find how much high- quality coffee bean and how much cheaper coffee bean she should blend.

I tried to at least get started with this:

 

Let x= pounds of coffee

 

6.25X + 3.25X = 5.13(160)

 

9.5X = 820.8

 

X= 86.4 lbs for one bean (or 87 when rounded)

 

73.6 lbs remains for the other (or 74)

I tried posting a comment and the correct way to set up the problem with the correct solution but it would not post so I'm just going to set up the problem correctly and let the student finish it.

6.25x+3.25(160-x)=160(5.13)

the answers should be 100 lbs of the high-quality coffee and 60 lbs of the cheaper coffee
