i answered this question using the substitution method

2x+3y=5

x-5y=9

 

can the answers be left as decimals

The answers can be, but best not to.

 

x = 5y + 9

2x + 3y = 5       2(5y + 9) + 3y = 5     10y + 18 + 3y = 5   13y = -13,   y = -1.

 

x = 5(-1) + 9 = -5 + 9 = 4.

 

Therefore if x = 4, and y = -1, the answer is (4, -1)
