Word problem!

Question

The school play sold $550 in tickets one night. The number of $8 adult tickets was 10 less than twice the number of $5 child tickets. How many of each ticket were sold? 

Answer 1

550 = 8(2X-10) + 5x

 

550 = 16x - 80 + 5x

 

630 = 21x

 

x=30  <-- $5 child tix

 

(2*30 - 10)*8 + 5*30

 

50*8 + 5*30

 

 400 + 150

 

550
