Sequence Pattern Help????

The sequence pattern goes like this

 

k,k-1,k-2,k-3, k-4.......etc

 

let say you plug in a number, let say k = 8 

The sequence is 8,7,6,5,4

 

Then a question ask what will be the nth term of the sequence? 

 

I think I have to develop a formula or something I just don't know

Answer 1

The 1st term is k

the 2nd term is k-1

the third term is k-2

the 4th term is k-3

the 5th term is k-4

 

Do you see the relationship between the term number and what you're subtracting ? you are subtracting one less than the term number in each case. So the nth term will be subtracting n-1.

 

So the nth term can be represented by k -(n-1) which, when simplified is k-n+1.
