The 1st term is k
the 2nd term is k-1
the third term is k-2
the 4th term is k-3
the 5th term is k-4
Do you see the relationship between the term number and what you're subtracting ? you are subtracting one less than the term number in each case. So the nth term will be subtracting n-1.
So the nth term can be represented by k -(n-1) which, when simplified is k-n+1.
