Kelton, this is called the distributive property.  It is kinda like FOIL.  You have to multiply what's on the outside by everything on the inside.  Let's do PEMDAS in a different way to show you.

 

8(5+5+6) = 8(6) = 128.

 

Let's break it down. 8(5)  8(5) + 8(6) = 40 + 40 + 48 = 128.  See how that works?

 

Now, we have -5w⁴(w⁴) -5w⁴(-w²) -5w⁴(2w).

 

Remember that w²(w²) = w²⁺² = w⁴, and that w = w¹.
