A ball is thrown vertically upward. After t seconds, its height, h (in feet) is given by the function h(𝑡) = 88𝑡 − 16𝑡2. After how long will the ball reach its maximum height?

If you know calculus, you should know that the maximum will be reached when the derivative of h = 0, i.e.

32t = 88.

 

if you don't know calculus, you need to know that the vertex of the parabola occurs at -b/2a (from standard form) = 88/32.
