Here's one solution. There may be more.
12 8 5 the containers
12 0 0 to begin with
4 8 0 fill up the 8 from the 12
4 3 5 fill up the 5 from the 8
9 3 0 empty the 5 into the 12 which had 4 and now has 9
9 0 3 take the 3 from the 8 and put it into the 5
1 8 3 fill up the 8 from the 12 which contained 9 but now contains 1
1 6 5 fill up the 5 from the 8 leaving 6 left in the 8
6 6 0 put the 5 in the 5 container into the 12 container which had 1 in it
