How do you write an equation for this?

You are opening a store and can buy either donuts or bagels. Your bagel supplier requires that you make a $200.00 initial payment to cover franchise fees and delivery costs for the rest of the school year. After that, you can buy as many bagels as desired at a cost of 12 cents per bagel. On the other hand, you can purchase donuts with no initial charge, at a cost of 30 cents each for the first 500 donuts, and 20 cents for each additional donut.

I understand that for bagels the equation would be y=0.12x+200

But I do not understand how to figure the different costs of the donuts. Please help!

Thank you!

Thank you, but what if you don't sell 500? If you sell 100, by your equation it would cost 230, but .30(100) is 30.
Thanks for the idea, I will have to think on that one.

Thanks again!

Sorry about that. It should be x-500. And x must be greater than or equal to 500.
