Angela, barbara, and Charlene decide to open an auto repair shop, ABC car care. They all contribute money to start the business. Charlene contributes two thirds of what Barbara contributes. Angela contributes one thousand dollars less than twice Charlene's contribution. The total amount of money raised is $125,000. Find the contribution for each woman

Using what you know from the problem:

 

The total of all 3 women's contributions A + B + C = $125,000 using the first letter of each woman's name as a variable.

 

But you also know that C = 2/3B  and that A = 2C - $1000

 

Rewrite C = 2/3B as B = 3/2C so now you can sub the values for B and A into A + B + C = $125,000 and solve for C!
