Write the slope intercept equation of the function f whose graph satisfies the given conditions, if the graph of f passes through (-12,8) and is perpendicular to the line that has an x-intercept of 1 and a y-intercept of -3

The given line passes through (1,0) and (0,-3) per the given intercepts, so 

the slope is (-3-0)/(0-1) = -3/-1 = 3 = (0 - -3)/(1-0)

 

The perpendicular line has slope M=(-1/3)

It passes through (-12,8), so x=-12 and y=8

 

The intercept of the perpendicular line is B = y - m x = 8 - (-1/3)(-12)

                                                                              = 8 - 4

                                                                               = 4

 

The perpendicular line has equation y = (-1/3)X + 4
