Three apples and two bananas cost 75p. Four apples and one banana cost 80p. Find the price of one apple and the price of one banana

I don't understand how to do these questions. Help needed!

Let a be apples and b bananas

3a + 2b = 75     and       4a + b = 80

                                     b = 80 - 4a

 

3a + 2b = 75

3a +2*(80 - 4a) = 75

3a + 160 - 8a = 75

-5a = 75 - 160 = -85

a = -85/-5

a = 17

 

b = 80 - 4a

b = 80 - 4*17

b = 80 - 68

b = 12

3a + 2b = 75

4a + b = 80 -----> b = 80 - 4a

 

3a + 2(80 - 4a) = 75

 

Solve for a, then subtract from 80 to find b.
