The question is asking you to put it into an equation using numbers and variables. Unless it says otherwise, you can use any variable you'd like. Lets use x
Quotient is the answer of a division problem.  
The number is the variable. (x)
Five more than is +5 (more means to add)

Square of a number x² (The number being x) 

(x²+5)       (Five more than a square number)

    x           (divide(quotient) by the number(x)

You must put x²+5 into parentheses because you are dividing more than one term.

quotient means you will divide the two quantities or numbers.

 

again let's call the number X

 

the square of the number is x²

 

five more than means you add 5

 

so 5 more than the square is written   x² + 5

 

Now we're ready to do the quotient

 

x² + 5 goes on top

 

x goes in the bottom

 

(x² + 5)/x is the answer

 

Again notice I put x² + 5 in parentheses. I did this because it has two terms. If you multiply or divide a quantity with two terms and you don't put parentheses around it, you will get the wrong answer.
