Here's what we know:
a + b = 61 (the two numbers added together equals 61)
a = 2b - 5 (the larger is 5 less than twice the smaller)
We have a variable vale, so let's plug it in:
2b - 5 + b = 61
Simplify:
3b - 5 = 61
Add 5:
3b = 66
Divide by 3:
b = 22
