I need help with a word problem asap

Marcus sells dump trucks for a living. He is guaranteed $1,700 a month. In addition he makes a 2% commission on all of the dump trucks he sells that month. Write an equation for Marcus' monthly pay, P, in terms of the amount of dollars, x, that he sells in dump trucks. Then determine how much money he needs to sell in dump trucks if he wants to make $3100 next month.

P = 0.02x + 1700

 

3100 = 0.02x + 1700

1400 = 0.02x

1400/0.02 = x

x = $70,000 in sales to have pay of $3100
