Katrina walks for one hour before Carla catches up with her, so the distance Katrina traveled is:

 

distance = (4 mph)*(1 hour) = 4 miles

 

Since Carla catches up with Katrina at 10 am, she jogs the same distance (4 miles) in 1/2 hour:

 

distance = rate*time

 

4 miles = rate*(0.5 hours)

 

(4 miles)/(0.5 hour) = rate

 

8 mph = Carla's jogging rate
