A plank of wood 7.5m long is cut into two parts so that one part is four times long as the other find the length of each part

It helps to draw a picture.

The line is the piece of wood.  It is cut into two pieces.  The smaller piece is x.  The larger piece is four times as long as the smaller piece, or 4x.  When you put the pieces together, they equal 75 m. So put them together.

 

x + 4x = 75     Solve for x.  That is the smaller piece.  Then multiply it by 4 and get the larger piece.
