Write in slope-intercept form an equation of a line that passes through the point (8, 2) that is parallel to the graph of the equation y=4x−3.

Parallel lines have the same slope, so we know the slope of the line you want to find.  

y = 4x + b

You have an x,y set for the equation, so plug that in and solve for b  (8,2)

2 = 4 (8) + b

2 = 32 + b

-30 = b

 

y = 4x -30
