Base of triangle is 3 meters longer than the height of the triangle. Area of the triangle is 14 meters

Area is 14 SQUARE METERS.

= ½(h)(h+3 = 14

 

28 = h(h+3)

 

This is a quadratic equation & you should be able to solve it.

We need to find two unknowns, so we need two equations.

 

Area of a triangle = one-half base x height = 14m²

the base = the height + 3m

 

14 = 0.5bh

b = h + 3

14 = 0.5h(h + 3)

14 = 0.5h² + 1.5h          now multiply both sides by 2

28 = h² + 3h

h² + 3h - 28 = 0

(h + 7)(h - 4) = 0

h = -7, 4

 

Since the height can't be negative, the height must be 4 meters.  I bet you can now figure out the base.
