Can you explain why you added 9 rather than multiplying by 9 please? The answer I find is E) none. However the answer sheet finds the same solution as you do. In all the training I have had in previous courses the term "by" is a term utilized for multiplication. As such, the initial formula would be: 3a^2 = 6*a*9 Please advise.

It says ".. exceeds six times the number by nine". So a^2 exceeds 6a+9. Actually it should be a^2>6a+9 (greater but not equal)
