Determine the absolute maximum and minimum y value for the following function on the closed interval [0, 64]:

 

f(x)=³√x^2  -(x/3)

Set the derivative equal to zero.

 

f'(cv) = 0

 

where cv is the critical value.  Find all critical values and see if the derivative changes signs around them.

 

Then evaluate f(0) and f(64).

 

Finally, compare f(0), f(cv) , and f(64).  Which is the greatest value, and which is the least value among the values?
