In two hours, Kitt travels 120 miles and the van travels 50. Since the paths are at a right angle, we use the pythagorean theorem to calculate the distance between them: 120^2 + 50^2 = 14,400 + 2,500 = 16,900 The square root is 130 miles. Divide by two hours to get the rate, 65 mph.
