Find three consecutive even numbers if it is known that the sum of the squares of the first 2 is equal to the square of the third number.

x,  x+2, x+4 are the numbers

 

x² + (x+2)² = (x+4)²

x² + x² + 4x + 4 = x² + 8x + 16

2x² + 4x + 4 = x² + 8x + 16

x² -4x - 12 = 0

(x-6)(x+2) = 0

 

x = 6, -2

 

Numbes are 6, 8, 10 or -2, 0, 2
