of Bob's paycheck. THAT is where you assign the variable.

 

X is Bob's paycheck.

20% = 0.2 ---> 20% more means 100% + 20% = 120% = 1.20

 

60% = 0.60 ---> 60% less means 100% - 60% = 40% = 0.40

 

Bob's paycheck is X

Andy's paycheck is 1.2X

Carl's paycheck is 0.4X

 

 

Multiplying them by 10 to clear away the decimals,
