Yang invested the same amount of money in two different savings accounts. He invests in an account returning 10% and an account returning 12% for one year. If he earned $1226.50 in interest how much did he invest in each account ?

 

I'm having trouble finding the initial interest .

10% of X + 12% of X = 1226.50

 

22% of X = 1226.50

 

22/100 X = 1226.50

 

22X = 122650  <--- multiplies by 100 to clear the fraction

 

X = 122650/22 = 5575

 

 

Check 10% 0f 5575 + 12% of 5575 = 557.5 + 669 =1226.50

 

He invested $5575 in both accounts
