If you average 20 points a game for half of a season in the NBA (41 games), and for the other half of the season you average 0 (zero) points, what would your overall average of points be for the the full season (82 games)?

We can take the full season average as follows realizing there are 82 data points total:

 

[20(41) + 0(41)]/82 = 10

We could also take the two averages and average them:

 

20(41)/41 = 20

20(0)/41 = 0

 

(20 + 0)/2 = 10

 

Either way, they averaged 10 points per game for full season.
