A motor scooter travels 1818 mi in the same time that a bicycle covers 88 mi. If the rate of the scooter is 55 mph more than twice the rate of the bicycle, find both rates.

t = travel time of both (the same for both)
v = bicycle speed
2v + 5 = scooter speed
vt = 8
(2v + 5)t = 18
t = 8/v
(2v + 5)(8/v) = 18
16v + 40 = 18v
2v = 40
v = 20
2v + 5 = 2(20) + 5 = 45
Scooter speed: 45 mph
Bicycle speed: 20 mph
You can also get the travel time.
t = 8/v = 8/20 = 0.4 hrs
