A store sells nineteen different video games. Several games are priced at $19.99,while half that number are priced at $39.99

, and 4 are priced at $49.99.How many games are priced at $19.99 ?

If 4 are at $49.99 then 15 are at $19.99 or $39.99.

That number, 15, is divided into three parts.

Two parts to $19.99 and one part (it is half) to $39.99.

 

Ten videos are priced at $19.99

Let x = number of $19.99 games

Let y = number of $39.99 games

 

x + y + 4 = 19

 

x + y = 15

 

y = x/2

 

x + x/2= 15

3x/2 = 15

3x = 30

x = 10

 

10 games were priced at $19.99

5 games were priced at $39.99

4 games were priced at $49.99 (as given in problem statement)
