Classrooms on one side of the language arts building are all numbered with consecutive odd integers. If the first room, the room with the smallest number is labeled y write an expression in y for the sum of the first 5 classroom numbers in a row. .Then simplify the expression

Answer 1

The first number is y

Second is.              y+2

Third is.                 y+4

Fourth is.               y+6

Fifth is                   y+8

 

Sum = y+y+2+y+4+y+6+y+8

 

        = 5y + 20
