Length = x   m.
Width= (x/2) -2  m
Area of a rectangle= length* width
240 = x *(x/2-2) 
240 =x2 /2 -2x
multiply eq by 2,
480 =x2 -4x
x2 -4x -480=0
x2 -24x+20x-480=0
x(x-24)+20(x-24)=0
(x-24)(x+20)=0
x-24 =0   or x+20=0
x=24      or x=-20 which is not possible.
width =24/2 -2 
         =12-2
         = 10 m
Length= 24 m, width=10m
