Need help solving a word problem

Question

If I read 3 pages of a book a night and have read 30 pages and my husband reads 2 pages of a book a night and is on page 40, how many nights til I catch up??

Answer 1

You:30, 33, 36, 39, 42, etc...at page 30+ 3n after n nights, from the startup position.

He:  40, 42, 44, 46, etc...     at page 40+2n from the startup position.

 

You'll have completed same number of pages when 30+3n = 40+2n.  Solve That!
