Question

Taylor has some buttons. Wendy has twice as many buttons as Taylor. Yusif has 12 more buttons than Taylor. In total they have 260 buttons. How many buttons does Yusif have.

w = Wendy's buttons = 2t

y = Yusif's buttons = t + 12

t + w + y = 260

 

substitute 2t for w and t+12 for y

in the last equation to solve for t

 

t + 2t + t + 12 = 260

 

Solve for t to find Taylor's buttons.

Then 2t = w 

and t + 12 = y
