The perimeter of a standard-sized rectangular rug is 28 feet. The width is 2 feet less than the length. Find the dimensions.

Let L = the length

Let L - 2 = the width

P = 2L + 2W

28 = 2L + 2(L-2)

28 = 2L + 2L - 4

28 = 4L - 4

32 = 4L

8 feet = L

width = L-2 = 8 - 2 = 6 feet
